fjord & condor

The northern access to Cerro Benítez is only 30 minutes away from Puerto Natales.

From the road we will climb the mountain’s shrubby slope until we reach a flat area covered with patches of lenga trees. Walking up a few terraces we will get to a high natural look-out, a kind of rocky “balcony” over Lake Sofía. We will enjoy an incredible panoramic view: the whole lake surrounded by mountains.

It is quite common to see the majestic Andean condor soaring below “our balcony”.

Staying at this level, we will contour the mountain through native vegetation, to reach an overhang that has rupestrian paintings on it. From this spot we will be able to see the blue fjord of Última Esperanza and the Andes beyond it.

This discovery is suggested for Nature and photography enthusiasts who want a half day of activity including some hiking.
